I wanted to write to thank you, and your children, for the patience you have shown us over the past few days. Closing the school is never an easy decision as we want to ensure that all children get the highest education they can, and part of this is about being in school. We also, as you know, try really hard to provide high levels of continuity and consistency for all pupils at the school.
When the decision to close the school, or to close early, was taken we reviewed the weather forecasts from the Met Office along with various weather apps, information about side roads from the transport service drivers and advice from the police to only make essential journeys. Using this information we then had to make a decision based on the safety of your children and the safety of staff. Many of the staff at school travel long distances, coming in from Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Kent, and we were concerned that we would not have sufficient staff to ensure all children's safety.
I do appreciate that the last few days may have been problematic for you and your family. Please be assured that we do try really hard to remain open and that things should be back to normal by Monday.
